I think the key for adapting my classes is to rethink what content and exercises can be delivered pre- during- and post-class. Some of my courses naturally lend themselves to a flipped classroom, but others need more intentional learning approaches.
I still need to develop as an instructor in a more traditional classroom setting and become more comfortable using technology.
My biggest adaptation is in creating more practical application projects for the lab. With the student already (presumably) entering the class with knowledge of the learning objective it will be my responsibility to ensure I provide project that will highlight, teach and reinforce these objectives.
I have been developing and teaching blended learning courses for several years now so I feel that gives me a good foundation for the flipped classroom. What I continually need help with is adding more apps and technology to my lessons, especially since all my students have ipads.
I would have to adapt to a less directive role in the class. Part of the appeal of teaching for me is presenting lessons and leading students. In a flipped setting it would be important to let students discover and learn individually according to their own timeline. This would require me to be more supportive and less directive.
Diane,
All good points. Staying up on the latest technology is certainly an ongoing process.

Tina,
I understand - we've all been there. My suggestion would be to check out the following software/resources: Jing, CamStudio, Shutter, etc. These will help in making your recordings. The Illinois Online Network (ION) also has a lot of resources for teaching on-line or in a blended environment. I hope this helps.

LE,
If you're like me you probably feel that once you get one thing down and can do it well, things change. Be careful that I don't give the students all the information that they need- make them investigate and learn the material! Make sure I am up to date on the latest technology!
In order to move in to the flipped classroom, I would need to become more technology savvy. I am unfamiliar with production of videos, podcasts, or the like or how to post them for student use.
To move to this environment, I would need to develop my skills with presentations in video and audio formats. I have never worked with recorded materials and would need some time to figure out how to adapt my style to this medium so I could effectively communicate and relate to students. I will also need help to expand my facilitation skills. Working with lots of students at various levels in the same classroom could break down into chaos. I will need to work to expand my ability to facilitate and engage with students effectively in a flipped model.
