instructional strategy

When i first come into a class, i look and listen to get the "feel" of the class before i set my standards for the class. I inform the students of the general rules, and wait to see reactions, before i carry on. I also let the students know what is expected of them on the first day, so if they have any problems they can let me know right away.

Keith,
Right you are. I teach the same course back to back and yet due to the differences between and among the students in the two different classes I approach the content differently. I try to customize my instructional delivery in relation to the composition of the students in each class.

I find no two classes are alike. So we have to stratigize before, during and after each class to help things go smoothly and give the best instruction

Steven,
I agree with you about how classes change a lot each session. Student dynamics are constantly shifting and as a result we need to adjust our approaches as well.

Good strategy, I have always been amazed at how the same class can be so different from semester to semester. It is fascinating to me how the classroom dynamics can change based on the types of students in the class.

Anna,
Good way to establish the climate and feel of how the class is going to function. This helps the students to get settled in and prepared for the up coming class sessions.
