Short and Long Term Memory
I think one of the keys to helping students transfer information from short term memory to long term memory is to revisit similar topics in future classes or concurrent classes. As our students move through the 5 semester curriculum we try to expand on or revisit past topics to help them move this information into Long Term Memory!
Erin,
I agree we definitely need to revisit similar topics as well as utilize fun and simple memory recalling techniques that will help store that knowledge in long-term memory as opposed to short-term memory.
As stated by Gary, this will help "seal" the information and allow the information to move from short term to long term.
Erin,
This is a key way to reinforce the content and to keep building on the knowledge base of the students. This method helps to "seal" the information in their memories and enables them to pull it up when needed in future courses as well as when they are out in the workplace.
