diffrent learners

by observing the type of diffrent learners you have in the class you can figure out what kind of strategies to use while teaching, whether its kinesthetic or visual and so on.

It is important for the instructor to know her/his students and the various learning preferences in the class. That way, it will be easier to adapt the teaching styles to the learning prefences of the group. So, in the long run, the teacher must be able/willing to assist the few students in the class who are unable to keep up with the larger groups' learning prefences.

Angela,
By having this information you are able to target and customize your instruction to enhance learning and increase content retention. As a result everyone benefits.

I feel this is corec. i think after a few days in class you are able to tell the different learning types and can relate to each one by using different teaching skills.

Diana,
This a great resource to have. This way you know how to plan your content delivery in relation to the incoming students. Glad your college is providing this.

We do assessments on the type of learners before starting into our program. This information is carried from term to term with the new instructor.

Jennifer,
I use pretesting for my students for the reasons you listed. I can then adjust my instructional approach based upon what I have found out about the current group of students. It really helps me to target my teaching.

I think that assessing students' learning preferences on the first day of class is an excellent way of getting to know students better. It is also important for instructors to include variety of assignments throughout the course so that students with differant learning preferences have an opportunity to shine.

Joseph,
Good way to bring balance to your instructional delivery. This way the different student learning preferences are covered and you can keep the students engaged throughout the course.

I agree with you on observing students to find what type of learner they are, from the 1st day of class. I keep my lecture and labs aimed at the type of learner I have most often (visual).. But when I extend myself with tutoring for students who are in need of extra help. I do customize their sessions for their way of learning...

Ralph,
Right you are. This is why it is so important to "read" your students so you can get a fix on their learning preferences and then plan accordingly.
