Cece,
This is why it is important for the students to have a strong foundation of basic knowledge and how it applies to different situation. This way they will be able to use their critical thinking skills to administer the needed massage technique in the proper way depending on the tissue that they are working with.

As everyone knows Massage Therapy is all about hands on and perfecting technique with palpation. It is important for the student to differentiate between healthy muscle tissue and compromised or diseased muscle tissue in order to apply the proper massage protocol during clinical massage applications.

Francine,
Sounds like you have a very good group of students that understand the value of cooperation. By helping them form a strong learning community you are impacting their knowledge and skill development on a major scale.

I teach sewing and most of my students have never touched a sewing machine before. On top of that, the machines are industrial so they are much more intimidating. After I demonstrate the first few steps, everyone is on a different level of understanding. This is when I start moving from one student to the next. I call it hit and run. Some get it right away and end up helping others which I love to see.

Allen,
Having the students’ demostrate their skills, definately is a great way to check their understanding.

Alicia,
I too teach at a trade school and the hands on learners are a very high percentage. I love your on the go learning, and in fact it is what is expected from us.

James,
I am a hands on learner and I have noticed, I use this technique more frequently than any other. I also teach at a trade school. I agree with you, with the point of the students mainly being hands on learners. This works great for me! I really enjoy the idea of getting up and moving around. I like to call it learning on the go. It also seem when my students are learning with a hands on approach, I learn more from them and I also pick up little tad bits that help me with the way I demonstrate the next time I have to teach the same skill.
