Multiple intelligence

When talking about multiple intelligence, is that similar to what is referred to as "right-brained and left-brained" in psychology? I noticed you spoke about the lobes of the brain and what abilities each of the lobes is dominant in.

I think it is a great reminder that we as teachers need to know our students and help them know themselves. It seems to be especially important to adult learners who may have gone through the educational system when only pencil and paper tests measured their success.

When I think of MI, I think about the need individuals have to have information presented to them in different forms that respects the various ways of knowing. Some students understand once you tell them. Others can understand better if you have a chart or diagram. Still another student will get it if you sing it or make a rhythemic chat out of it. Students learn differently and I try to present using as many different methods of delivery that make sense so that all my learners are engaged.

I agree. People are unique, they learn, think, grow and react in unique manners. They do not fit into squares, and they do not answer questions according to a test. This is how creativity moves the world forward.

Multiple Intelligences indicate how individuals are unique and able to achieve in this world. We all have intelligence in different ways and we are all able to learn in different ways. For years we attempted to measure intelligence with a test and you were smart or not. But people are unique and achieve in many ways. This modern world has been created on the multiple intelligences of many.

Edwin,
MI is how individuals internalize information and and how they interact with the world around them. They expand even further the dominance of left and right brain operations into the categories known as intelligences.
