Self-awareness of intelligence
SInce everyone has intelligence, it can be helpful to the students to help them discover their strogest area of intelligence. This can really boost their self-confidence, willingness and ability to learn by helping them see they ways they are intelligent (especially if it is in the non-traditional way). Placing a value on all intelligences will make the student realize the intelligence within themselves to give them more confidence to learn in more situations.
Erica,
I think this is a great way to get some foundational information about your students so you can customize your instructional delivery to meet their respective learning preferences.

I like to have my students take a learning style quiz the first day of a challenging course like anatomy and physiology. It also helps me to see how all of my students in the class that mod learn the best so I can help them.
Sherry,
Good strategy to follow. Students like to have change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. If you make both a part of your planning you will be able to keep them engaged.

I think if I was aware of my areas of the strongest "learning skills" when I was going to school I would have been much better off! I am finding just how important it is in my classroom activities. I try to provide a variety of ways to get the information across.
Katrina,
This is something I work hard to help my students to understand. Our intelligences are spread out in different areas and we as learners need to find what those strength areas are. Once we do then we can develop a plan for using those intelligences to our advantage both in school and the work world. I have a number of activities I use to help them to get such an understanding.
