multiple intelligence
how do we handle students who are very good in one thing and excel in another
Danny,
This is key. There has to be a personal connection to the content by each student in order for them see the value of the content and the ROI for them to be a part of the learning process.

I agree or even if their is no interest, Just geting them to make a personal connection some how with the topic will draw them in to the subject matter more so
It's not unusual for a class to consist of multiple levels of intelligence. My students are having doctor's degree, bachelor's degree, and masteral degree. Some have only associate's degree in allied health. To bring them together in a certainl level that fits everyone requires a lot of preparation. Thanks for this training they gave me hints how to create a lesson plan that brings the lesson comfortable to everyone. I do hand-outs, powerpoint presentations and a lecture that blends all the three together. It is very efective.
Carolyn,
The key element in using the different intelligences is to have the students internalize the knowledge and skills in the intelligences in which they are most dominant. This is why the saying "it isn't how smart you are but how you are smart" applies here. It is how the students process new input and then make it a part of their working memory.

Perhaps by challenging them more. Are you trying to have them excel in everything? We usually excel in those thing we enjoy more. Is a different learning style needed for the very good? You probably need to ask the student about his/her interest in the very good class.
Beth,
Not exactly sure of your question as you have students that are above average by being very good in one area and excellent in another. Where is the break down in terms of how to work with such students? If you can supply some additional information we can explore solutions further. Thanks.
