pretest
I feel a pretest will help me understand where the students are before i start my lesson plan
NATHAN,
I like them as well. They help me to get an idea of the knowledge base my students have as they come into the course. I make the pretest a fun process so the students don't become stressed at the thought of taking a test at the beginning of the course.

I like to use pretests in select classes. Depending on the subject matter, we have overlapping information, this causes unique dynamics to form in the room. As some students have already learned these concepts. The pretest gives me a window into this.
While I generally have an open discussion at the beginning of a course to get an idea of the student's knowledge level, I feel a pretest might benefit myself and them as a measure for where they started to where they ended the course.
Hi Anthony,
I agree and use this format with each of my classes. Pretesting lets me know where to start my instruction. This way I can customize my teaching in a way that is targeted for that group of students.
Gary
the pretest before the class not only tells you where the class is nat but it also shows the student what they my not know and keep them focused
Hi Edward,
I agree for the reasons you listed. I use pretesting in all my courses because I then can customize my instructional delivery based upon the results.

I feel a pre test is worth the time to set up and administer to the students. I can adjust or "tweek" my lesson plan to re-inforce what they know, and spend more time on new material.
Hi Charles,
Good points about the advantages of using pretests. I use them in my courses with the same results you mentioned. They really help me to target the learning needs of that specific group of students.
Gary
I think pretest can help can a feel where to start and how fast you will be able to through chapters. It also helps you split up groups so the stronger students can help the ones who might have trouble with the work.

use pretest results to help in the selection of lab groups. Placing students of similar level together helps them stay focused.

Hi Henry,
I use pretesting in my courses and really like the results I get as well. By knowing where my students are I can better target my instruction to make sure I am meeting their needs.
Gary
I believe that pretest are very helpful in not onlt determining where the student is but if done right it can show aeras of weakness that need to be addressed before going on to new material.
Hi John,
I am a big fan and user of pretests as well. I get results like you mention and that really helps me to customize the content for that group of students.

I agree a pretest will help to find what ifo the students have retained and what I need to go over with them again
I have used pre-tests in the past to select lab partners, and to see how much extra work in any was needed on certain topics. I informed the students that it was not graded and would not effect their grades. It turned out it was also a great way for the students and I to evaluate how much the learned from their web based training.
I love pre tests. I use them for every class I teach, especially pharmacy calculations. Most students claimed to have done the material, but most don't remember how.
When I first started, I would ask. That didn't give great results, but the pre testing did.
We have a pre-test in first elecrtrical course in ford fact it works well.
