topic geared toward career

I teach medical students and I always try to tell them stories about my past experience in the medical field and also try to show them how what they are learning relates to the field of study.

Margarita,
Students really perk up when they hear stories about the area they are preparing to enter. These stories make the content more real to them and shows them where they will be working upon graduation. Keep on sharing.

Being able to tell the students from your own experience is very helpful to them. The real world is what it is and we have to talk about it, this way it is more intersting for them.

I agree that this helps make the sometimes "dry" information more interesting and real. If the students know that they will actually apply this knowledge in their work-day, more effort will be made to learn and retain the material.

TONIA,
Students like these types of stories because they help them relate the content to the field. They start to see the value of what is being taught through these shared experiences.
