testing
pretesting allows you to know where your students are at
Our course breaks down into 6 week modules. We give a pre test review on what was in the previous module. this gives us an indication on what we will need to review before moving on.
Billie,
This is why I pretest my students. I like getting a baseline on them so I can customize my instructional content and increase their engagement factor.

Pretesting is a great way to access where your students strong and weak pionts are. This then gives you a starting point to educate them.
Olga,
I use pretesting in all of my courses for the reason you state. I like having a baseline from which I can plan my instructional delivery and content for my current class.

Pretesting before each course is an excellent tool to identify weaknesses and pay more attention to specific areas or topics also.
Chad,
If you get a chance maybe you can develop your own form of pretesting so you can get the needed baseline and then build your instructional delivery around what you find.

I wish they would use pretesting where I work. It would be extremely helpful to have a baseline assessment of the students understanding so that we could be sure to hit on the subjects were they are the weakest and accelerate their strengths.
Justian,
I use pretesting in all of my courses so I can get a baseline on their knowledge and experiences. I give them the pretest at the first class meeting once we have completed our ice breaker and introductions. It is set up to be fun so they don't feel a lot of pressure but it still gives me the information I need to do my instructional planning.

Pretesting is a great tool to find out where to began with your students and what areas you may need to focus on more.
Jennifer,
I use pretesting in all of my courses. The results lets me get a baseline on my students and from there I can do my instructional planning in terms of customizing my approach to the current class of students.

I think pretesting is a great way for the students to get an idea of what their going to learn in the course.
Sonja,
What have been some of the successes you have had when using the pretesting format?
Gary
Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pretesting is a great idea and I have used it before. It works.
Laura,
I have been using pretesting for a number of years and I really like the results I get. By getting a baseline on my students I can then customize my instruction for my current class of students and increase their ROI for the course.

I intend to implement a pretest prior to my next class.
Brenda,
I use pretesting so I can get a baseline on my students just as you mention. With the baseline I can then customize my instructional delivery for them knowing I am appealing to their knowledge levels.
