It allows them to see (literally) the success they are striving to reach.
One of the best graphic organizers I use in my cost control class is on day one. It is a wheel that has several steps. It's called the purchasing wheel. This helps describe the entire course and the importance of each step in purchasing products that will then be processed and sold to the customer. It is an organizer that we refer back to throughout the class.
It gives them a way or visual in how to get to their goals.
First the students learn an innovative way to categorize information to help them in retaining the information. Students who are graphic learners benefit greatly and those students with other multiple intelligence dominance learn another way to process information. Some graphic organizers also create an outline as you plug information into the organizer. They are useful for painting a graphic of the main information within a section of learning. The hope is that students can grasp a deeper understanding of the material to be learned.
Graphic organizers are an effective way of showing relationships. You can use pictures, numbers or shapes to help students see the steps necessary to attain a goal. By using graphic organizers like network trees the student can see the sequence necessary to attain a goal.
It allows them to have visuals of progress.
