Material retention

I use guided notes as a scaffold for my students. It seems to work well.

Sharon,
Good point about how get students to focus on key concepts and content. Reinforcement of these concepts through application helps with the retention factor.

Material retention can be applied by using the various domains of learning. letting the student relay on teir preferred choice and facilitating te student to step beyond their customized comfort zone. This promotes learning and retention
Racall and sharing of expereince is another retention toool

Jeff,
You are going to see that these make a difference with your adult learners. They will see how they can get down on paper the critical content in a way that makes sense. This will really help them develop their self confidence.

I'm going to implement these as handouts for each lecture I give since I have a lot of adult learners who come from backgrounds where they have no note-taking or study skills whatsoever.

Juan,
You have a rich foundation upon which to draw when it comes to life experiences based upon your students. I know they can relate to the stories from each other because they have lived it in so many different ways.

I try to use my students' experiences in the field as examples relating to the current material I am teaching. Adult military students respond very positive to these type of real life examples.
