Mnemonics using numbers

I have seen some students use numbers to create a "numeric acronym." Some students can retain a series of numbers that remind them of a list of items to be learned.

Tom,
I am a big fan of them and use them all the time in my own life when I have to remember lists of terms, etc.. They are fun to make up and really work. Not sure how I would remember what I have to remember without them.

I agree .I use mnemonics to remember totally unrelated long list of the things to keep in our mind . It helps learning and students like it.

Rita,
They are fun and easy to make up. They help students remember critical content and cost nothing to use. A win win for everyone.

This does seem very interesting. I was first introduced to mnemonics when I learned to SCUBA dive and have used mnemonics for many years. They are quite widely used because they are so effective. Thank you for the excellent new idea!

I use this method myself. Many students can use this to better organize their material. This should also make it easier to retain. The key is making the material meaningful and memorable to the student(s).

Ken,
That is interesting. Haven't seen that before. My students have all used letters but numbers would and do work as well. Thanks for sharing this.
