The Bones Skeleton

When I am discussing anatomy on the Skeleton, I directed the student's attention to the Bones Skeleton and point at the different parts. The students also have a chance to point at selected parts. We named the Bones Skeleton Mr. Bones and we have a lot of fun with visual learning using him.

Richard,
Such a good idea and it didn't take with your students. Been there and had a similar experience. Some of my "greatest" and most "creative" teaching ideas have landed with s thug. Oh well. Had to come up with something that would work and capture their attention. Teaching is an ongoing process for sure because you never know what will work with students until you give it a try. I still like the overcoat and hat idea.

Good idea, and very visual. Anything to get learning across seems worth considering. In my last science class I only used our Mr. Bones as a coat hanger for my stuff, but then we weren't studying anatomy (ground water, air pollution, etc. were the topics of the class). I thought it might be a fun visual aid to put my overcoat and hat on him every day, but nobody seemed to notice. Darn.

When I have taught Anatomy/PhysiologyI have found it effective to use prefixes and subfixes to relate to the different parts of the skeleton breaking it down into managable parts for learning while promoting visual, auditory and knetstic learning styles.

Gloria,
Sounds like a lot of fun. This is an essential part of being engaged in the learning process. If students can see application and are having fun in learning content then their satisfaction levels increase greatly.
