scaffolding
I am going to try scaffolding. I think it will work great with new students.
Jon,
This is such a great comfort for the students to have. Knowing that they are building step by step their knowledge base and skill sets generates a lot of confidence in their minds.

We use scaffolding as well in our clinical program. It serves as a security blanket until the student has a firm grasp on the skills and knowledge needed to move onto graduation and employment.
Michael,
Thank you for this example of how scaffolding can work in your field. It is an important concept that has many applications to help learners build toward career success.

I use scaffolding with my clinical nursing students. It assists them to learn what they need to do with patients, provides a safe environment for both student and patient, and allows the student to growth in knowledge and safety. As the student matures in their role, I am able to slowly remove the scaffolding so the student is able to mature into their nurse role each term and as a graduate.
IDA,
It can be of great help. In addition it shows the students the learning sequence needed to move them closer to acquiring the needed information.

scaffolding sounds like a great way to get students to retain large amounts of information in a short time
