Analyze the situation
I am a phlebotomy instructor and analyzing the situation prior to performing the procedure is critical to a successful blood draw. Critical thinking plays an important roll. If a student cannot think critically in order to analyze the condition of the patient for the wanted result, the health of the patient will be at risk.
Rosemary,
Like your analogy. It makes good sense when applied to critical thinking. Looking at how parts become the sum total helps with finding solutions to problems in unique ways.

I often use the analogy with students of being in a Chinese restaurant and having to pick something from column A, something else from column B and still something else from column C. You have to gather data, understand what that data means and then end up with your conclusion based upon these factors.
Joe,
It is important to do so to make sure that your proposed solution or answer to a problem is feasible.

haveing patient is very important for critical thinking, you will need to view thinks from all angles to be positive you have the correct answer before procedding forward.
Phyllis,
So true and so important. The focal point has to always be the patient and as a result critical thinking needs to enter in to make sure that the patient is always well cared for.
