Craig,
This has been my experience as well. I have to take different approach with my younger students so they will see the value of self discipline. Though exploration rather than just jumping on the first thing they can think of and saying that is the solution they will be able to come up with problem solving ideas that work.

When I have classes full of younger students who lack discipline, focus and attitude are also not a priority. When I have classes that more age mixed, I tend to have less challanges and need less patience.
Paul,
For sure. Life experiences can help to shape the problem solving skills of an individual if that person will reflect on what they have experienced and what they have learned from those experiences.

Anthony,
I have a number of these same types of students in my classes. I enjoy them because they are disciplined and goal oriented. They are great role models for my younger students as well as mentors so they make my job a lot easier.

i have a large number of mid 20's students who have served in the military.the level of effort I see from these students is very high.my younger teenage students are my greatest challenge.there level of excitement for a subject is sometimes all we have to start with.
Mary Jo,
Right you are about the age difference. Life experiences have a way of giving depth to the critical thinking abilities of most individuals.
