Creative problem solving
More and more students aren't willing to take the time to find answers they want someone to give it to them.As an example when I taught them coding I looked up some silly or really strange codes for them to find. It made the class and learning process more fun
David,
Like your approach because when they are in the workplace no one is going to be there handing them answers to the problem that the car is displaying. They need to be able to thinking critically and problem solve if they are going to be successful in this area. Granted getting this message through to them can be very difficult at times.

In our auto classes I am finding more and more just want the answers given to them. Its so frustrating. So I give each student a question to answer or with larger classes the group get a few to answer and work out by the end of the course. the class goes over the material for review. it doesn't always work perfect, but it is fun watching them work on it
John,
I bet your students come up with some very unusual results as a result of having the opportunity to be creative and come up with their own results in terms of end products.

In my culinary class students sometimes can bored when they must prepare and follow directions from complicated recipes.. To create fun I allow then to come up with their own themes and recipes.
Ann Marie,
This is such a great way to encourage student engagement. They are taking ownership for their own growth and learning. This is something that they are going to have to do in their careers so the more they can see the value of it while they are students the better.

yes, great examples of having fun while you learn. some of the fun things we do is to ask students how can we make reading the chapters, learning your objectives, and taking lectures notes more fun. They discuss their ideas and options such as memory games rather then lecture, draw the conclusions from each chapter rather then write them. make new ideas to add to chapters and syllabi.
Linda,
This is a fun and creative way to get your students engaged in research. There is nothing wrong with having some fun while learning a new way to get the needed information. Keep up the good work.
