Drawing conclusions about students from previous instructors ideas.

It is not a good practice to draw conclusions about students based on experiance from previous instructors.

Hi Doreen,
You are right about the different perspectives and instructional styles instructors being to the classroom. They are as different as are the students. The key is for the instructors and the students to get to know each other and adjust their styles to work together on common goals.
Gary

When I give instructors warnings about classes I am usually trying to help direct the instructor how to meet the goals of the students. What I have found is that every instructor brings with them different personalities and teaching styles that can cause conflict. Once the instructors understand the students they are able to reach out to the students learning styles more affectively! Like instructors, students have preconceived conclusions about instructors and making sure they are confident in their education is the priority!

Hi Lori,
I really believe teaching success comes when you don't prejudge a class. By keeping an open mind and letting them show you what they are about you will be able to form your own opinions of how best to instruct them.
Gary

I completely agree! There are many times that I have been “warned” about a class but I take the view of “let’s see what they can do” before I even attempt to judge or gain an understanding of the group as a whole.

Hi Dianne,
That is the fun part of teaching learning something new about relationships all the time. Students surprise you many times when they are approached one on one.
Gary

I have continually been surprised to find that my relationship with a "difficult" is not difficult at all.
