Multisensory Teaching Methods

Multisensory teaching methods should cast a wider safety net which should reach a vast diversity of different types of learners. Using many types of teaching methods should ensure that you get your concept across, ex. visual presentations, audio presentations, and hands on projects are a few methods which can be helpful.

I agree. It is a great tool. I have found that when using this approach that my classes are more livily. My students are engaged more with the subject that is being presented

That is a great tool!

Penelope,
Very true, I have found multisensory teaching is strongly used at the school I teach at because our students are online learners. With online learners we provide various methods to facilitate the materials of learning to our students. As with a traditional classroom our students meet in a virtual classroom where we have a meeting time and we use a common meeting software provided by the institution.

In that software instructors can utilize mulitsensory teaching by providing a presentation for students to follow along (visual), audio for the students to hear what the instructor is saying (audio), and a chat box component where students can ask question and answer questions (tactile). There is also a white board component that I use for sharing files, polling the students, using the highlighter to highlight points, adding videos to enhance the virtual classroom, etc. At our school the live classes are recorded because the school understands there are reasons why our students are not taking classes in a traditional setting (work responsibilities conflict with class times at a campus, not located near a campus, various disabilities or phobias, military have limited access, the list goes on. So to remove this barrier our live classes are recorded and available to be reviewed as many times as the student wishes along with the pausing, fast forward and rewinding features.

We also incorporate students assignments utilizing weekly discussion boards, individual projects, and per course a group project and quizzes. So I feel when an instructor understands multisensory teaching methods I find their students are more engaged and feel more comfortable to participate in discussions and activities.
