Student Characteristics
When you are an instructor managing your class you are, like a manager in the work world, always dealing with intrinsic and extrinsic student/worker challenges. The big issue is successfuly dealing with all of the Diversity issues that exist in your class all at the same time. It is sort-of-like beign in three or four places at one time. A possible solution is to over prepair and then go with the flow.
I completely agree that being an instructor is like being a manage in the work world. We grade on performance, hold them accountable for attendance (including tardiness), and we give them tasks to complete and hold them accountable for getting the assignment done. I find many of my students have been coddled and I am the first person to hold them accountable. This is something that is very important to learn to prepare them for the workplace.
