Knowing your students.

Knowing your students gives you a better opportunity to understand their specific learning style, abilities, and personal goals. This information will help you to teach and also encourage each student as an individual.

Also, understanding and knowing your students allow you to develop a positive relationship with students. If you understand the culture and backgrounds from which students are from, you will be able to effectively assist them.

I try to understand my students to be able to assist them in learning when they are having a hard time. I have many adult students who have not been in school for many years. In addition to instruction I try to encourage them to find new ways to study. I have also encouraged study groups with the younger students to assist the older students. This also shows them that they are not so different and the can succeed no mater what the age difference is.

I find that to be true. Asking everyone what they would like to see from the class and if they have had any experience in what they will be learning, lets me know, from day one, how to tweak my lessons and lectures for the whole course that will be beneficial for everyone.

Mohammad,
Right you are about needing to have some understanding of your students. This way you can target their needs and provide support to them as required. This is going to result in happier students and enhanced learning.

If you know your student it will help you to identify the need of the student. He may be slow or, fast learner. You can adopt the right style of teaching.
