It seems that some adult learners already think they know everything already so it can be hard to retrain there mind set. Are there some ways to redirect them.

Sherise,
What are some successful strategies you use to achieve this goal? Thanks for your input on this.

I as an instructor start usually with the basics and then refocus their experience

I have found the exact opposite: the older students are there to learn and they don't have patience for "high school" behavior and avoid cliques.

The younger students feel they are entitled to being spoon fed and using anectodal responses to explain their reasoning. And those younger students who have some previous experience in the dental field have the audacity to say "I know how to do this. Why can't I get credit for my work experience?"

Chanel,
Try to show them that even with their extensive life experiences they don't know everything about the course content they are studying. Otherwise they wouldn't need the course. Show them the connections between their life experiences and the new content so they feel like they are learning information that will help them achieve their career goals.
