Motivating the Difficult Personality
I know that it's a challege for me to motivate someone that is not really as interested in the courses they are taking as they should be. I know that I work with them and try using personal experience in the field as I have been in it for 18 years. I think that you have to have a passion for what you do but not all that get into the medical field have that passion. Even in college, if you find that you are going to school for something you don't think you will enjoy, you need to think about switching to something you would enjoy.
Nicole,
The more you know the better decisions you can make. So by having experience in a field you are thinking about preparing to enter you know whether it is for you or not.

I agree 100% ! I advise people all the time to attempt to get a job related in that field to see if it is something they could see themselves doing.
HAROLD,
Right you are about knowing the reason for one's individual motivation. With lives at stake nothing less than total dedication is acceptable.

If one is not motivated in whatever they are doing or trying to accomplish, they are wasting valuable time. Motivation is one of the keys to success. Especially in the medical field, if one is not motivated enough to develop excellent skills, lives may be lost. One should not work for the salary alone, or because they see others making a lot of money in the medical field. One should be intrinsically motivated.
Kathy,
Good point. What are some ways that can be employed to keep them engaged? Thanks for sharing on this.

We have that problem in our class when it is used as a stepping stone. In order to get into ultrasound the students needs a AAS and might use Respiratory to achieve that. Interest in the medical field, just not our field. Makes it reallty difficult to keep them on track.
Kelly,
I so agree with you on this. Every person should make an informed, meaningful and realistic career choice. If they do they will have passion for their field and work hard to be successful in it. If not they should select another career for the sake of everyone.
