Use of the term "career college student" in these CEUs

I don't like the use of the term "career college student" in these CEUs. To me and everyone I know it means someone who attends college for as long as they can because they want to put off getting a job or someone whose college performance is so poor that it takes them an inordinate amount of time to graduate.

I'm reminded of the John Belushi line in "Animal House" where in front of Dean Wormer he expresses his frustration of expulsion with, "six years of college down the drain."

I'd like to see the term be modified to more accurately reflect the intended meaning - "career-oriented college student."

Benjamin,
Having taught in a public community college and a career college I can appreciate your comments. We need to work on the image that career colleges and universities have with the public. There is a lot of misunderstanding out there that needs to be worked on as you are correct about the accreditation standards for career colleges and universities. I have served as a commissioner on to career school accreditation commissions and I know there is outstanding education occurring in these institutions.

I teach at a university that, until 2 years ago, was known as a career college. The college chose to change the college name, since many students do not understand that career colleges are the same as any other university. We have the same accreditation as any other community college.

Christopher,
You make a good point. Thanks.
