Starting the class out

I always like to greet the students at the door and be in the room atleast ten mins. early to make sure that the room is clean and neat for them.

I always try to be available for students questions, need, or concerns.

DeShaun,
Good way to be visible and accessible to students. This sets the stage for the upcoming class and helps you get a read on their mood.

Stand outside of the classroom 10 minutes before the bell rings, speak to the students as the walk to the classroom door you get a feel for their attitude for the day. Some students will volunteer how they are feeling that day. You are also insuring they are in the proper uniform.

Elizabeth,
You have a good approach by blending the modeling behavior along with your professional preparation. You are walking the walk as well as talking the talk.

I also like to be to class early. I am able to greet the students as they come and answer any questions that I know at least one student will have. It also looks good to the students, because I am prepared for class. I hope to be teaching them something, but at the same time I am trying to be a good example.

Michael,
A simple thing that yields big rewards. Thanks for bringing it up.

being early to class helps to ease setup and avoid rushing to prepare for class.

Good idea James I have a hearing impaired student in my class and making sure the computer equipment is ready for him is important.also mingling with all the students as they arrive starts the class off upbeat about new material.

James,
For many instructors this seems like a small detail but as you mention it is not. It sets the tone for the class and thus should be made ready for the students.
