Age diversity is important in the classroom
I like to recieve view points from different student in different age groups. Espeically when you work on case study.
Daniel,
I think this is such a valuable part of your students training. The more experience they have in working with individuals that come from all age ranges the easier their transition is going to be into the work world. In addition, their success rate is going to be much higher with such individuals.

In my field age diversity in the classroom is an invaluable tool. The students I train need the ability to relate to people of different age ranges on a daily basis when they enter the professionalism world. Making the older and younger students cooperate together on projects often allows my students to develop social skills crucial in the work place.
Jeanette,
This I believe is the most effective way to get learning groups to function. The age and life experiences in the group work well together when they have a common problem to solve. I use a lot of case studies to get all of the students working together no matter their ages or experience.

I have also found that when working in groups to have mix the ages. The older students tend to keep the younger studenst focused on the task at hand and the younger students help motivate the older students to continue trying.
Alan,
You have found a balance that works between the two generations of learners. This is so important because both groups can be successful in the course while learning to respect what each student contributes to the course.

I always have a very diverse age group in my classes. The experience of the elder students is a good balance for those just getting into our career field. Each of them have a different view of how things should be and they help "teach" each other with their different view points. There are time that I must correct both sides and get them back on track. I use this to help the class become better as a whole.
Latasha,
This types of discussions expand the thinking of students as well as how they approach problem solving. Good strategy.
