Educating Culturally diverse students
Educators that embrace culturally diverse students acknowledge both individual and cultural differences and identify these differences in a positive manner. Thus, create a basis for the development of effective communication and instructional strategies.
Nila,
This is certainly a challenge but it sounds like you have developed very effective strategies for working with students that are learning in a second language. The more connections you can make between the content and application the better because these connections will create images in their minds to which they can connect the content.

Communication is sometimes difficult in a culturally diverse class because many times english isn't their first language. At times I have a tough time explaining something to them because of the language barrier so I try to make definitions and such as simple as possible. I always let them take their time with exams because I know they are mentally translating the questions into their own language before they answer, it's double the work.
Pamela,
Yes, the do and as a result they help to incorporate all of the students into the class setting in a way that is supportive for everyone.

I enjoy being exposed to diverse cultures and appreciate the opportunity to not only teach students from different backgrounds and cultures but to learn from them also.
