adult learners often present challenges that the younger student/learner does not. the older student has little patience for questions they feel are not pertinent to the lecture or not relative to the course in general. As instructors of a diverse class, we need to realize this and adjust our methods of teaching to accommodate all of the students.

Annette,
They really do but they often don't think they do. We need to encourage them to share and well as help to draw them out when in class. Once they see they are respected and valued they will start to contribute more.

Adult learners have a lot to offer the younger students. Adult learners bring experiences to the table and can use these experiences during discussions in the classroom.
