Student Goals Assignment
I give a Student Goals Assignment for the first homework to better understand the student and what they are like.
This is a great idea!
Honestly, so many of my students have no goals or really have no idea why their in college. And even if they know why, they don't have the ability to see that every one of their actions can negatively or positively impact their ability to reach those goals.
In addition to having them write up what their goals may be, I would encourage you to have them create a short mission statement for their class or college career. Creating a mission statement forces your students to think about what skills and postitive attributes they possess and how those skills will help them achieve their goals. With my students, oftentimes no one has ever told them what they do well. The mission statement can instill a real sense of pride in them.
Stanley,
I think this is a great way to get information about them and where they want to take their careers. The more you know about them the more accurately you can plan your instruction for them.
