student characteristics

understanding people and what makes them happy will yield a productive classroom activity, therefore learning will take place.

Quetittia, that is a great idea asking the students to share their short and long term goals. I usually ask my students where do they see themselves in 5 years. This allows them to think about their future and helps me understand their needs.

Quetittia,
This is important for students to do because it causes them to stop and reflect as to why they are there. Often they are in a class just because it was assigned to them and they don't really see the value of what the course has to offer. Doing this activity brings our the reasons and gives them focus.

I normally ask them in the beginning to share with the class their short term and long term goals as well as one unique thing about them. I learn a lot about my students characteristics on the first day!

Randi,
Yes it will. How do you find out what makes your students happy and how to you incorporate this information into your class interactions? Thanks for your input on this.
