new students
its was challenging at first to direct ambitions in the right direction of all students. giving them a understanding on how they will learn things that may not be as intriguing but at the same time make doing other things that are more interesting fun and easy
New students are challenging because they have just embarked on a new chapter in their lives. They appear to have lots of goals which I believe are valid and important. I first meet with new students during a new student orientation. Here I introduce myself, discuss my background, discuss the overall program including expectations, rules, and activities such as individual presentations, group work, guest speakers, and field trips. I also inquire about their goals including their steps to getting there. At the end of the orientation, I answer any questions the students have. As their first term continues, I check in with them regarding their academics and the overall college experience.
