Visual Aid

I start the class by showing them problem and give them 15 min. to discuss how they can fix it. It always seems to keep them interested....

I believe visual aids are of the greatest value as...the brain remembers pictures and has instant recall of images. It must sort through files to make sense of words. I'm pretty creative...When I'm teaching I try to use images to help students understand concepts. I will grab anything in the room I can put my hands on & use it as a prop to create a teachable moment. When all else fails, I use my water bottle as an example. I always have one with me. I know students will remember what I say... if I give them a visual image to attach the information to.

An actual visual aid clearly explains everything.Training aids do a great job to add to the understanding of the subject matter.Whenever I discuss a component/s I like to pass out the component to the students so they can see it, touch it, feel it, for themselves.

Since I am a pastry chef instructor, I will bring in a book or piece of my personal kitchen utensil that pertains to the lesson. It brings up lots of questions about variations & what types of differnt products can be made from just that one item.

You would also be amazed by how many different ways they come up with to solve the problem. I think visual aids give students a picture they can relate to.
