You make a key point about feeling the pulse of the class. You are right when you say you can feel how the energy leaves the room. So that is when you regroup and refocus so you can reengage the students in the learning process.

not only can you see it in there eyes, but you can feel the lack on enthusiazm in the room for learning. If you see that happening, then its time to Refocus, and maybe change it up a little bit for the benifit of the students learning expirience.

Good point about seeing things from a student perspective. If we do this we should be able to target our students better which will lead to increased student retention.
