being a good teacher, not just a teacher
always try to put yourself in the students seat and make ssure what you are teaching is understandable, interesting, and most of all going to give the student a positive outlook for their future
Hi Chris,
What do you think is the strongest attribute you bring to the classroom to be shared with your students?
Gary
I had pride as a student and that has carried over in my teaching.
I often encourage my students to share experiences from work and life that relate to our industry. Many would like to have right/wrong, cut/dry answers and there are many things that come up where we can learn from the perspective on another.

In my opinion student interest is important. Finding common ground helps us to focus discussions and to provide relevant “real life” examples.

Hi Darryl,
You are right about instructors needing to look from a global perspective on the instructional management of teaching. By seeing all of the components they can then change, modify, or add what ever is needed to make the course move forward for the students.
Gary
I need to agree that putting yourself into the students seat gives an opportunity to see if how you are teaching is "student friendly". Can understand and relate to the material given? Is the delivery of the material effective? Too much distractions; sometimes the comfort of the seat can make the difference in learning - is it too comfortable or too uncomfortable? I believe good or even great teachers take into account details that can have an effect on the full capabilities of learning.
