Peer Refocus
From time-to-time, I find myself wanting to help peers refocus. What are some suggestions for helping fellow instructors "refocus" without coming across as condescending, especially when addressing someone with more years of teaching experience?
Those sound like great ideas...I will try and use those in my future classes. Thanks
Hi Adam,
One approach I use is to go chat with one of my fellow instructors and share with him/her something that I have just learned about how to teach more effectively or something like that. Then I ask if they know about this new strategy and if they have any suggestions for me on how I can implement it in my class. A few days later I talk with the person again and tell them about the success I had and how excited I am with the results. Then I ask if they would be interested in learning more about it or they would like to try it in their class. Most of them talk with me at length about the strategy. They may not try it at first but after I have chatted with them several times about different teaching methods they often will try one. After they have tried one and have had success they will ask for more ideas and they are on their way to being refocused and the don't even know it.
