Keeping focus on students

A simple fact that in my opinion needs to be kept in mind on daily basis.

This is a great point. It's all too easy to get caught up in frustration with the school system, lack of supplies, miscommunications and working within the confines of a corporate environment. but at the end of the day, it's all about the student and being committed to meeting their needs.

I am a classroom walker so I will navigate around the room and try to involve everyone into the discussion. Sometimes just standing by and observing what they are writing down during a discussion gives me an idea of what to ask to get their involvement.

It's all about the students and their needs.

Exactly. Good teachers are always responding, never reacting.

Keeping focus on students while lecturing can help you pick up the signs when students are not getting/ understanding the key information you are conveying. This will allow you to come up with new examples to enlighten the subject matter.

This a a very good point to keep in mind. By seeing each student as indiviuals and not as a collective, helps retain the rapport with them. They will feel more likely to trust that you are there for them.

Ryan, I agree...it is similar to the concept of parenting children, parents must recognize that each child is an individual not to be compared or contrasted. As instructors must also understand and recognize that each student who enters our classroom has a different situation and story that has helped define them and that they are individuals who are capable of different talents and accomplishments.

Each class has their own learning curve and you need to adjust to each student.

This is so True Chef focus on students needs to be a daily thing. Every day the situation changes in the class and focusing on these cahnges and changing to meet those needs is a needed skill
