surprise techniques
I hadn't thought of using these type of techniques. I can see their value and expecially like the crisis technique. I think this wuld be very effective in geting students invloved again as active learners.

Hi Stephen,
You will find that the students will really get into these situations and the engagement is really high. This results in increased learning and higher motivation.

I like the idea of the crisis, but what I want to do is turn it into a crisis that students might run into the audio industry. A lot of what I do when I am not teaching is work on records. More often then not I have a phone call and a client coming over in 30 minutes to record. I want to do the same to the student and have them feel the pressure to an extent. I think this type of activity will get the students excited and wonder what will happen next week.
Hi Kofi,
Variety in instruction really helps to keep students engaged and surprise is one of the ways of offering variety. I wish you the best in your teaching. Sounds like you are working very hard to make your classes dynamic.

I think the students really like surprise techniques. It makes class interesting and helps them retain information. I really liked all the practical ideas on creative ways to help students learn in this class.
I really like the crisis idea, too. I think this technique would be especially effective in core classes, but I hope to find a way to implement this technique in my Foundations of Writing classes. I have a couple ideas brewing on how I might do this, but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas for how I might present a writing-related crisis situation. I would love to hear any and all suggestions.
