Keeping Your Focus on the Students
Keeping students focused is a challenge some times but if you try to change your tone and keep them in gauged by asking questions to the subject matter that seems to work.
I find that it is hard at times to keep your focus on the students when we have so many administrative things to do at the same time. I guess you have to find that balance. I'm constantly working on this.
Hi Natasha,
Good point. Good stories help students to keep interested in the topic and to make application of the new material they have just covered. I use them a lot to reinforce my course content with great results.

I really like a good story to tie in the material. I make it short and sweet. They seem to respond well and it works when it seems like you are about to lose them....when the eyes start to get that glazed over look. Who doesn't like a good story?
Keeping adult students engaged is especially hard. While in class; they still have the stress and worry of everyday life. Therefore, I find it beneficial to occassionally stop right in the middle of class and have them demonstrate the concepts of the lecture material. This helps to keep them alert and focused.
