ED102

I always refocus about the third or fourth week of a quarter. A survey works well to not only remind me that students may be loosing their way but that a lesson plan often needs to be tweeked along the path to learning. A survey also helps students put into words what they are struggling with. Sometimes, it is issues at home that are distracting them.

Hi Douglas,
This is a good way to let the students get settled into the class. They can vent and then get focused on the class.

I think with adult students, they will always have things going on at home/work that can distract them. And so do I. I think that one way to get "over" that and move on to the topic of the day is to let the student vent for a few moments.

Hi Regina,
I have my students give feedback as we complete a project, quiz or assignment. This way they comment on something that is fresh in their memory so they give accurate input on how they perceived everything.

The classes I teach only last 11 weeks. When do you suggest give the students a survey of their class?

It seems like things wear down later in the course. Maybe a guest speaker or a field trip would help also.
