What is the best way to keep my students focus on the subject?
Using various instructional methods and class discussion. Calling on them in class to answer or discuss something.
I also have found splitting them into groups and having them present the chapter to the class.

Have activities that keep them focused and engaged on the topics being covered. You can lecture on content for 15-20 minutes and then have a discussion, Q&A, small group, problem solving, or case study activity for 15-20 minutes. Then give another mini-lecture and have an activity. The change of pace will keep the student engaged and focused on the course while enhancing their retention of key concepts.
