re-energizing

How do we get students to re-energizer or refocus when they have passed the half way point, and are in the middle of the half way point and the end? It seems like they can no longer see or want the end result.

Jessica,

This is usually mid-term for my students. That is the time that I enter the class and have a "chat session". I start out by being honest and saying, "I know you are tired, I am too...." I then continue on to give them a pep talk reminding them that there is a light in the near future and it will be here before we know it. Just by taking this time to discuss, rather than straight lesson plans for the class, often re-energize the class.

I hope that helps.

Jessica,
This is when I do something different in class to let them catch their breath. We may play games that use course content that has been covered, we may have a mini-party with snacks, or break into groups and do a case study. Something to get them redirected and refocused on the second half of the course.
