Positive reinforcement goes a long way in making a shy student feel more accepted.
Fayez, I recommend start light with student by introducing new way by demonstrating in different ways that will make him comfortable.
I love the "drawing straws" idea.
I never put a shy student in the focal point. I call on all my students by putting all students names on pencils and drawing the pencils and calling on that student. Everyone gets a chance to participate with no one being called out.

Have such a student make a presentation or do a demonstration that is set up so they will have success. They more success they have the more confidence they will develop. It is a growth process that enables such students to see that they have something to contribute to the course.
