Developing the Trust with Your Students

It's important to have the open door policy so that students know that they can trust you. Encourage them to come to you with ideas and concerns they are having about the course. Make sure to stay on task and that you are not personal with them. But you can make them understand that you know where they are coming from.

I completely agree...I tell my students in my list of expectations for the class that all suggestions are welcome though not all will be implemented. And I have implemented some student suggestions into classes. I also try to keep it light and tell them that I wear "big girl panties" and that there is nothing they can say that will hurt my feelings or change my opinion of them. I've heard many earfuls before. It helps them realize that they can come to me for anything they would need, even if it's criticism.

Yes it is very important to keep the communitaction open with your students to let them know you do understand and you are welling to help with and conserns they may have to keep them focuesed on there goals.

Well said Kelly. I have that open door policy with my students as well and it works great. It really builds that trust factor which in turn builds an important relationship. In the end, the student is gains confidence in their skills and in you, the Instructor.

I agree with Kelly completely. Developing trust with your students is essential in the foundation of your relationship with them. Once trust is established, even constructive critisicsm is a welcome source of information as well.
