Remembering What My Mission Is On Campus!
I try to stay focused in my daily routine and often try to put myself in the shoes of my students. So many of them have issues outside of school that affect their education! I feel very fortunate that I have not had to face some of their challenges - health issues, transportation problems, homelessness, etc.
Sharon,
This area of discussion has come up at our faculty meetings. Actually, at every faculty meeting.
For the last 7 years, I had taught at a university. Since pursuing my doctorate degree I wanted to direct my teaching towards adult learners. It has been such an emotional and rewarding commitment. It is challenging to stay on course with the daily routine when students share such intense and complicated personal issues. I need time to process the information. And many times, I direct students to our school psychologist. I want to help them anyway possible to keep them focused and enrolled.
