Participation How
I have often had students that will not participate in the class learning activities or if they dom it is very little. I would like to make each student feel like they are apart of the group and they feel like particating.
Charlene,
I use them frequently and they really help students to become involved through the writing down of their thoughts. I think you are going to like the results you get from using the cards.

I agree with you Sonya. I have one student that has visible disabilities that have caused him to feel like he isn't part of the class. I have called on him multiple times to assist me in showing my students how to take a blood pressure or other procedure. I think he really enjoys the attention. All of the students watch what I'm doing and his reaction to the process itself. Class participation is essential. I also play "Password" games where one student stands with their back to a word and the other students try to describe the word without using that particular word. It's fun to see everyone interacting and using critical thinking skills. I love getting everyone involved atleast once per class.
I liked the idea of using 3x5 cards for participation and assessment....hopefully this will help them feel more confident and they will start to open up as time goes on.
Sonya,
I have found that by putting students into learning groups they will open up and become more involved. I also have students do presentations via a panel. This way I have three students up front sitting behind a table sharing. For shy students this is not as scary as when they are asked to stand in front of the class alone.
