Refocusing and your Syllabus
I teach software packages in the majority of my classes. I find that sometimes when dealing with refocusing my efforts, I must make changes to the course itself in order to give my students the best understanding of those packages.
Is it okay to change the flow of the course to match the pace of the students at this point, or is that a bad thing?
Jeremiah,
After some teaching experience it is fun to come up with new activities and strategies for getting students engaged. Since you have taught the course several times you are comfortable with the content so you can start to experiment with delivery in new and different ways. I really enjoy introducing new activities into my courses because these activities are fun for me to develop and then see how they work with my students.

I would have to agree. When you are a new instructor, you shouldn't vary things too much. However, after you have done it a while, you should be able to gauge what you can and can't accomplish with a varied pace. You are in charge in the end so it is your call if it can be done or not.
Tracey,
I think this is a very wise thing to do as you have enough items to deal with as you get settled into your new career as an educator.

I may consider this later but as a new instructor I will focus on the existing syllabus and just add to it.
