It has always been very good to take time for each student to do a reflective diaries on what hes learning on a certain day or subject.
Jeanie,
I know you are going to like the results you get from this activity. Putting in writing what they have learned is a graphic reminder that they are progressing toward their career goals. Taking some time to discuss what they have written will yield a good response from your students as well.

I really like the idea suggested in the lecture about having the students write on an index card all of the things they have learned so far. I'm so excited about this, I am going to do it monday. I'm teaching one of the most difficult courses in the program right now, and many of the exam scores are really low. I don't want the students to get discouraged or feel like they aren't smart enough to be here. I know that they know more material than is indicated on there test scores. We have many discussions in class where they seem to really grasp the material and they have demonstrated their skills in lab. I think this is a good way for them to look on paper at all they have learned and give themselves a pat on the back.
Ricardo,
Yes it is because this lets the students see how far they have come and what they are actually learning. Many students get so involved in passing the course they forget that they are actually learning a lot.
