Keep the Students excited about the course
sometimes refocus and do more to keep the students excited about the course
Recognizing the students' insights and acknowledging their responses as thought provoking encourages more class participation and excitement in future class discussions.
April,
This is a fun strategy to use because students often get settled into the course routine and become numb to what is being presented. Introducing a "wow" now and then gets them ramped up and ready to move forward in the course.

In our classes, we take particular subjects and present a "wow" class. This is to teach the students a wow factor about the chosen subject outside of what is in their text books.
keeping adult learners excited can really be a challenge at times. Adult have so much access to information we really have to stay a step ahead of them and introduce material that is exciting to them.
Chris,
I use games like this in my courses as well. Students do love competition. They surprise themselves at times at how much they actually know when we are playing a game like Jeopardy. Also remember adults are just taller children so they like to receive prizes, candy and recognition for what they have done. This makes learning fun for them.

I love keeping my students excited about my classes. I teach medical coding and it can get quite "tedious" at times. So, in order to "spice" it up, I created a Coders' Jeopardy board. ☺ The students love the competition too.
I always make sure I engage in specific topics related to the course. I incorporate my experiences and tell little stories to break up my lecture and ask them if they can relate. It always works.
